Since 2012, I’ve photographed thousands of incredible families and businesses across Austin and beyond. Whether I’m documenting snuggly newborns at home, capturing candid family chaos, or helping brands visually tell their story, my goal is always the same: to reflect the beauty, personality, and connection that already exists in your life or work.

Some family sessions feel especially easy.
This one at Waterloo Park and the Austin Greenway was exactly that.
With older kids, sessions tend to move a little differently. There’s less chasing toddlers and more conversation, walking, and letting personalities come out naturally. The result is a gallery that feels relaxed and real — which is always the goal.
As an Austin family photographer, I love sessions like this where the location gives us plenty of space to explore while still feeling very “Austin.”

Waterloo Park has quickly become one of my favorite locations for family sessions in Austin.
It has a little bit of everything:
• beautiful landscaping
• wide walking paths
• modern architectural elements
• skyline views tucked between trees
It feels urban without feeling busy, which is perfect for families who want something a little different from the typical park photos.
For older kids especially, it works really well because we can walk the trails, stop in different pockets of light, and keep things moving naturally.

One of the biggest advantages of photographing families with older children is that the session can feel more like a walk together.
We spent time wandering through the park, stopping when the light was good or when the kids started joking with each other.
Some of the best moments came from the in-between parts of the session — siblings laughing, parents chatting with their kids, and those quick moments where everyone naturally leaned in together.
Those are always the photos families end up loving the most.

Toward the end of the session we moved along the Waterloo Greenway, where the evening light filters beautifully through the trees.
Golden hour in this area is soft and warm, which creates the kind of light that makes skin tones glow and keeps everything feeling natural and timeless.
Austin has so many beautiful outdoor locations, but this spot is a great option for families who want:
• a modern Austin feel
• greenery without leaving downtown
• variety within a short walking distance

Sessions like this are always a reminder that family photos don’t have to feel stiff or overly posed.
The best galleries usually come from letting families move, talk, and interact with each other while I guide things gently along the way.
Waterloo Park and the Greenway gave us the perfect backdrop for that.

Yes. Waterloo Park and the Waterloo Greenway offer beautiful landscaping, walking paths, and great evening light, making them a great option for relaxed family photography sessions in downtown Austin.
The best time is about an hour or two before sunset, or right away in the morning when the light filters through the trees along the Greenway and creates soft, flattering light.
If you’re looking for relaxed, natural family photos in Austin parks like Waterloo Park, I’d love to help document your family.
