Austin Family Photoshoot Locations

There are so many beautiful Austin photoshoot locations to choose from, which can make deciding on the right one feel overwhelming. From urban backdrops to creeks, trees, and open fields, each location offers something different and works best for certain families, seasons, and stages of life.

As an Austin newborn and family photographer, I help families choose locations that fit their style, their kids’ personalities, and the overall feel they want for their session. Whether you’re planning family photos outdoors or a more relaxed newborn session at home, the right location plays a big role in how your images feel.

Below are some of my favorite Austin photoshoot locations that I regularly recommend to clients. When you book a session, I also provide a more detailed location guide to help you narrow things down if you’re still deciding.

Butler Park

This park is one of my favorites locations for several reasons. Great for an urban + Austin backdrop! A big park right near downtown, the Austin skyline and plenty of room for kids to run around. Sunset is best for this location. Here’s a recent session with the B Family that started out at Butler Park, then we found ourselves at several other spots in Austin that really highlighted some urban backdrops and splashes of color.

South Congress Avenue

A super fun, urban option! Mornings are least crowded, and this spot is best for kids that aren’t “runners”. 😉 There are ample backdrops for families and brands.

Circle C Park

No matter what time of year, this is definitely one of my favorite Austin photoshoot locations. The colors are more subtle throughout the year, but come fall, there is some gorgeous warm leaves growing throughout the trees. Stunning in both the morning and afternoon! Tall, wispy grass and beautiful trees.

The Long Center

I just love this view of downtown + urban walls with stairs and places to roam and run.

Austin Public Library Downtown Austin

Austin Library / Downtown Area has the butterfly bridge, beautiful Austin architecture and a lot of great texture.

Zilker Botanical Garden

Zilker Botanical Gardens | $50 Photography Fee
This is a great place to explore with infinite backdrops. The Botanical Gardens typically looks pretty year round.

Bull Creek Park and Greenbelt

Bull Creek Park and Greenbelt | 6701 Lakewood Drive
Beautiful park with big oaks, a shallow creek and room for you to roam make this a favorite locations if you have children that want to get out and play.

McKinney Falls State Park

McKinney Falls | 5808 McKinney Falls Pkwy | Photographer Favorite
This is one of my all time favorite Austin photoshoot locations for several reasons. This is truly an adventurous spot for active and water loving families, all of that rock acts as a natural reflector and the light always hits just right. Sunset only. Mueller Greenway

Mueller Natural Area | Photographer Favorite
A fantastic nature-scape right in East Austin. Best at sunset.

Mueller Lake Park

Mueller Lake Park
Urban, but with some great greens and architecture. Gorgeous for a morning session!

Commons Ford Ranch Metropolitan Park

Commons Ford
Gorgeous trail with a wooden fence area as well as natural space. Sunset is best.

Waterloo Greenway | Downtown Austin

Waterloo Greenway

A fun, urban location near downtown with a nature/architectural feel. If you crave some plant life in your session but also love an urban feel, this is the spot for you.

What’s more personal and comfortable than your own home?! It doesn’t have to look like a magazine, all homes are beautiful and worthy of a photoshoot, especially if it’s your happy place! Pick a favorite part of your day and let’s document it! Home works particularly well for kids on schedules that won’t be happy for sunrise or sunset hours too, or littles under 1.

Sekrit Theater

Sekrit Theater | 1145 Perry Road | $125/hr
Unique, Austin gem with a plentiful amount of different photo spots! A great option for brand sessions as well.

Barr Mansion | $150/hr
Beautiful ground with an old “mansion” on the property available to shoot inside. Wrap around white porch and plenty of flora!

The Lumen Room

The Lumen Room | $75/hr
A beautiful, minimal space with options for a clean, white look or mix it up with their ample furniture selection. Great for branding sessions or kiddos under one and Brand Sessions. This spot also works beautifully for families with newborns who want a relaxed setting with space to move at an easy pace.

Le San Michele | Buda | $60/hr
Beautiful, private venue with an Italy meets Texas vibe.

Austin Photo Studio | Cedar Park | $85/hr
Big, beautiful and bright home with multiple shooting areas. Great for a 6 month session, maternity or branding.

The Grand Lady | $150/hr
