Since 2012, I’ve photographed thousands of incredible families and businesses across Austin and beyond. Whether I’m documenting snuggly newborns at home, capturing candid family chaos, or helping brands visually tell their story, my goal is always the same: to reflect the beauty, personality, and connection that already exists in your life or work.

The early days with a newborn can feel beautiful and overwhelming all at once. You’re finding your footing, settling into a new routine, and noticing all the little things that are already changing.
That’s exactly why a lifestyle newborn session matters. It gives you space to slow down and hold onto this chapter, just as it is. No posing. No pressure. Just the quiet connection between you and your baby, captured in the place you know best: home.
If you’ve been wondering how to prepare your home for newborn photo session, these tips will help make the experience relaxed and stress-free.
Your home does not need to be spotless or styled. I’m not looking for perfect décor or Instagram-worthy spaces. I’m looking for light, connection, and comfort.
When I arrive, I will ask for a quick walk-through so I can get a sense of the natural light and decide where we’ll spend most of our time. That’s often the main bedroom, the nursery, or the living room, but it really depends on where the light feels best.
If we need to move a few things, shift a chair, or open some curtains, I’ll help with that as we go. You don’t need to prep your home like it’s a set because this session is about capturing real moments, and I’m happy to move anything we need to when I arrive.
Please don’t stress about cleaning or “getting things ready.” What matters most is that you feel relaxed and at ease in your own space.
Natural light plays a big role in creating that soft, organic feel you see in my newborn galleries. It brings out the warmth in your baby’s skin tones and adds a timeless quality to your images.
Before I arrive, you can help by opening curtains or blinds in the rooms we might use. Don’t worry if the light changes throughout our time together. I will adjust as needed and guide you to the best spots. It’s also helpful to switch off any overhead lights or lamps so the natural light can shine without mixing with indoor lighting.
You don’t need big windows or a perfectly bright house; just a bit of daylight and a calm space is more than enough.
To help us ease into the session:
Simplicity photographs best. Think well-fitted onesies, soft gowns, or a classic swaddle. Think of pieces that feel comfortable and allow your baby to move naturally. Avoid anything with bold patterns, large logos, or stiff fabrics, as they can distract from your baby’s face and the emotion of the moment.
Neutrals and soft tones work beautifully and blend seamlessly into your home environment. I’ll also bring a few wraps and blankets in case we want to layer or change the look slightly as we go.
You don’t need to overhaul your home for beautiful photos. Just a few small tweaks can help us create a calm, comfortable space that photographs beautifully.
Before the session, consider:
Remember, it’s not about making your home look perfect. It’s about making room for quiet moments, relaxed connections, and time together as a family.
The beauty of lifestyle newborn photography is that it gives space for your real life, not a curated version of it. The way you hold your baby, the quiet in-between moments, the way your home looks right now — it all matters more than you think.
You don’t need a perfect house or a perfectly sleepy baby. With just a little preparation and a lot of trust, we’ll create something that reflects this season honestly and beautifully.
I’d love to help you create something real and lasting.
