Since 2012, I’ve photographed thousands of incredible families and businesses across Austin and beyond. Whether I’m documenting snuggly newborns at home, capturing candid family chaos, or helping brands visually tell their story, my goal is always the same: to reflect the beauty, personality, and connection that already exists in your life or work.

There’s something really special about documenting this chapter outdoors — feeling the breeze, soaking up the golden light, and having space to just be. When you’re carrying your little one, it’s not just about the photos, it’s about how the place makes you feel.
Grounded. Beautiful. Connected.
If you’re wondering where to take maternity pictures that truly capture that feeling, I’m sharing five of the best outdoor locations for maternity photos in Austin — each one offering a relaxed, light-filled, and personal setting.
This one has my heart for a few reasons. It’s quiet and open, so we’re not navigating crowds or distractions. The soft grasses catch the light beautifully, especially in the afternoon. It’s relaxed, peaceful, and perfect for a gentle, romantic vibe.
You can show up in a flowy dress, feel the grass underfoot, and take a deep breath because there’s space to move, play, and just soak at the moment.
Vibe: calm, natural, soft, and serene
If you’re dreaming of golden-hour glow and space to explore, Commons Ford is one of the best places for maternity photos in Austin. There’s a lovely wooden fence trail, open fields, and tall grasses that photograph like a dream at sunset. Bonus: pets are welcome!
We can wander slowly, let the light work its magic, and capture those quiet in-between moments that feel like you.
Vibe: warm, earthy, a little adventurous
For an urban twist, Butler Park gives you the best of both worlds — lush greenery and that iconic Austin skyline in the background. There’s water, railings, wide-open walkways, and a variety of backdrops depending on the season.
It’s especially beautiful at sunset, when the buildings glow and the city feels still for just a moment. If you’re leaning modern but still want natural light and emotional connection, this might be your spot.
Vibe: modern, polished, urban with heart
I love this space for its color and variety. In spring, everything turns lush and green; in autumn, the oranges and golds come alive. The land feels expansive, like you can breathe deeply and move freely (even if you’re 30+ weeks pregnant!).
There’s plenty of room to walk slowly and settle into whatever pace feels good for you.
Vibe: playful, seasonal, open, and vibrant
This is a favorite for couples who love water, rocks, and a romantic backdrop in their images. The limestone, forest trails, and natural waterfalls add variety and depth to your gallery. It’s also a great spot if you’re bringing older kids along because there’s space to roam.
We’ll stay close to flat areas for safety, but there’s no shortage of beauty around every corner.
Vibe: natural, bold, adventurous, and grounded
If you’re open to something outside the usual spots, I sometimes shoot at Camp Ben McCulloch. It is a tucked-away spot with gorgeous trees and old stone structures. It has this timeless, rustic charm that feels really unique. I usually recommend it for families who want a little something different (and don’t mind a drive).
1. Start with the Feeling You Want
Do you imagine something soft and romantic? Modern and clean? Natural and earthy?
The overall vibe matters more than the backdrop. Think about how you want to feel when you look back at these photos.
2. Think About How Much Walking You’re Up For
Some locations are more spacious and involve a bit of a stroll, while others offer beautiful spots just steps from the car.
Don’t worry, I’ll always suggest places that match your comfort level
3. Prioritize Light
Golden-hour light is dreamy no matter where we are, but some places catch it more beautifully than others. I’ll help you choose based on where the light works best for the time of day we shoot.
If you’re looking for natural light maternity photography in Austin, the right location will make all the difference, and I know just the right places.
4. Keep It Personal
Most importantly, the best location is one that feels like you. It doesn’t need to be dramatic or grand — just a place that lets you feel grounded, beautiful, and connected.
Not sure where to start? I’ve got you.
I’ll ask a few easy questions about how you want the session to feel, what you’re wearing, and how far you’re happy to travel. From there, I’ll suggest locations that fit your vision and comfort level, no guesswork needed. We’ll make sure everything feels natural, relaxed, and true to your story.
You don’t need to overthink the location. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable. I’ll guide you every step of the way — from picking the right spot to helping you settle in during the session.
So whether it’s open fields, water, trees, or city views, we’ll find a place that feels like you and let the connection shine through.
Let’s make something beautiful together.
